challenging emotional inspiring reflective sad medium-paced

4.0

Opened my eyes to some complexities of Latinx culture in the time period and the conflicts facing immigrant families to the US. That being said, I wish I could say that this book is hopeful, but it was a bit depressing and more graphic than I expected. A bit of a twist as it ended in a way I did not expect. Worth the read, but does not romanticize the struggle of the immigrant experience and the reality of intra-familial relationships.
