Trust by Hernán Díaz
4.0
The plot revolves around a successful financier and his wife who not only survived the crash of 1929, but thrived by their particular investment decisions.
This layered novel is written in multiple sections showing different sides of the events. The question is which version can you trust?
This was not an easy read; the main character is unlikable, the character you want to like is impossible to get close to. And for me, when I am not sure what's going on, or what I'm reading can be believed, I feel on shaky ground the whole time and can't relax into the book.
However, I'm glad I read it. Reading it was like reading a classic novel. The writing is superb, and the "bending and aligning reality" gives us pause to consider how "truth" is presented throughout history, and especially in our current times, on a daily basis.
