Let me just start by saying that I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did and this is because I have an iffy relation with fantasy. I received an arc of this book at Bookcon and I put it off for a while when I saw that it was marked as fantasy. I finally decided to give it a chance because of all of the time I now have on my hands for reading. However, the fantasy in this book wasn't the main focus of the novel which I appreciated. It wasn't completely absent, but it wasn't overbearing and I enjoyed the fantasy elements which surprised me a lot. I also was pleasantly surprised to see that this book wasn't romance-driven and instead focused mainly on platonic and sisterly love which I appreciated as I am not that big of a romance fan. I think that this was a fantastic debut novel and I can't wait for the sequel and am very curious about what will happen. The story was very enticing and I could not put this book down and I would recommend this book without hesitation.
