Somehow I've avoided Solaris my whole life.  The 2002 film came out and I thought it looked lame and so never gave it a chance.  But yeah its a really unique weird sci fi gem. It takes a common isolated astronaut theme and turns it on its head. Literally everything is about the inner life of the main character. Loved the line: "we were looking for a mirror" when describing Alien life. A bleak take, but very true that our motives for exploration are selfish. A true alien life would have such different motivations it would be incomprehensible and probably pretty horrific. 10/10 would get creeped out again.
