The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I have yet to read The Iliad, but I'm familiar with the story. I can't compare The Song of Achilles to the source material. However, from what I do know, I loved Miller's poetic take on this classic. I listened to the audiobook and loved the narration. I haven't loved a non-thriller/horror book this much in years.

The Song of Achilles is beautifully written and kept me engaged. I can't express this enough; everything about this story is stunning. Miller wrote an epic and genuinely devastating novel! Achilles and Patroclus are so cute. It's indescribable. I enjoyed their bond so much. There are so many beautiful quotes and moments shared between these two. I was in actual tears multiple times. They're easily one of my favorite all-time ships.

My words can't do this masterpiece the justice it rightfully deserves. All I have left to say is read this book. Listen to the audiobook; I don't care. Just read it already. It's a remarkable story of love, war, and glory. You won't forget it.

-Quotes I’ll be thinking about until I die:

“I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”

“In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.”

“He is half of my soul, as the poets say.”

“We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.”

“I will never leave him. It will be this, always, for as long as he will let me.”
