I came into the story thinking it was mainly going to be romance with smut, which it is, but I was pleasantly surprised at how deep the material was when reading. As someone with a religious background I found myself relating to both of the main characters despite it seeming they were at opposite ends. The conversations of control in your life, relationships with God in the modern day, wanting to be your own person, and more. It sometimes felt like the book was reading me in my perception of things.
The main characters were such an interesting and fun time to read. The chemistry was so good! Sean Bell is probably one of my favorite romance men so far even with his sinner ways. Zenny was fantastic in the way she was represented in the story and I fell in love with her almost immediately. Sometimes I do get nervous on how Black women are represented in romance novels especially in interracial ones. In this case, Zenny was a very developed character that I personally related to not only just in her age and look. Not to mention how she was described and loved, I was worried for a second of a drink order compliment from the leading man.
There is no fade to black when the smut occured either so that was great! And the conflict made sense and didn't come at a surprise. I will say that the book is not perfect, but all around I thought this was such a great and swoonworthy read!
