The Mortuary Monster
by Andrew J. Stone
"Now, what day can we bury your boy, and when will he join my nightmare?"
The Mortuary Monster is Andrew J. Stone's debut novella, and the second book I've read by him. As always, his stories are creative, disturbing, and amusing.
While I loved the concept for this one, I wasn't very fond of the format. There were multiple timelines, and it jumped around a lot. It was sometimes confusing because it wasn't always immediately clear when something was happening.
A lot of characters were introduced, and since many of them were corpses, backgrounds were given for them. I loved this idea, but it's tough to fit this into a novella. I wish that the book would have either been longer, or that some of the background information would have been removed.
I think The Mortuary Monster could have used a bit more refining, but it was still a fun idea. I adored Andrew's second novella, and I can't wait to see what he does next!
