The Secret History by Donna Tartt

4.0

I have mixed feelings about this book. I couldn't decide whether to give it 3 stars or 4. I might change it later mainly because i just finished it.

Donna Tartt, in my opinion, is an incredible author; she has a beautiful way with words and she has the talent to play with your emotions throughout the whole book. I have one main problem with this book.

I hate big and unnecessary descriptions. And i dislike when the narrator slows down the plot just to describe me something. And this book is full with descriptions. I promise you -and believe me when i say this- this book could have been way smaller if half of these descriptions were removed and NOTHING would be changed in the plot. Absolutely nothing. Everybody is saying that the first a hundred pages are hard to get through because it is not that interesting but i didn't find them that hard. It sets up the story without it being rushed. What i found hard to go through were the two hundred that followed (up until the 300th page/the end of the first book).

Apart from that it was a great experience. The last two hundred pages flew really fast, i did not even notice how easy it was to read them. Overall i liked the book, it just that sometimes it was kinda tiring.
