Dying of Politeness by Geena Davis
5.0
I think I really became a true fan of Geena Davis when I first saw the movie A League of Their Own. I loved her character in that movie and I also loved how they played on her 6' height and didn't try to minimize it. Interestingly, Geena talked several times about how her height always made her feel different, how she found when she learned to play a sport it was the first time her height was really appreciated, etc. I connected with this so much! But also she talked in detail about her career, gave behind the scenes info to movies she has been on, the best and the worst of Hollywood (no holds barred!), and about her family life and marriages. The stories of her parents are delightful. The honesty with which she discusses her marriages is refreshing. Learning about her fantastic work she has done to reduce gender disparity in children's programming is inspiring. I love her even more after having listened to this - and I need to go watch some more of her movies (or re-watch) now that I have more insight into them. Highly recommend the audio narrated by Geena herself.
