The Canyon's Edge by Dusti Bowling

5.0

Another fabulous novel-in-verse read for me. I got through this ARC in one sitting, even though I was hesitant about the Hatchet comp (which wasn't my favorite required reading in elementary school).

But Nora's story is made compelling not solely because of the survival component but because she's also battling PTSD and grief from the loss of a parent in a random shooting.

Bowling's prose is succinct but impactful. The verse sections, which make up the majority of the novel, are utterly lush and beautiful. The book design is also A+, with illustrations scattered throughout that further enhance the narrative. Definitely give this a chance. I imagine it'll find fans in both avid and reluctant readers.
