This is such a quiet sort of book that really makes you read between the lines to observe what David is going through and thinking about and who he wants to become, even when he's talking about something else entirely. I do think it's a fair criticism that the energy throughout the course of the story is more or less level the whole time (with the exception of one plot development near the end), and readers who are looking for the candidate figure to be more of a focus or to attain some juicy Obama gossip are sure to be disappointed. But I think the writing is really well-done and it leaves you with a lot to think about.
