I don't know how I came upon this book but I'm glad I read it. It was not a pleasant read but so important because of it. How much violence one has to endure to just be themselves. Violence from family, school, police, hospitals everyone. This book is a mirror of the society. And while things have changed there's still a long way to go. I wish I could hug Jess. How many times does a person pick themselves again?
It was a little tough to understand the context of 60s-70s worker class America. But otherwise the this novel is a must read.
