The Last Resort: A Chronicle of Paradise, Profit, and Peril at the Beach by Sarah Stodola

Not sure how to rate this one... There is a lot of important and well researched history of vacation culture in its different forms. The author also discusses the socioeconomic (dis)advantages and environmental consequences of resorts. However, the book doesn't explicitly discuss how resort culture is rooted in colonialism, and how in most cases, natives typically don't see a lot of profit. While some of the chapters have subtle threads of thought on those topics, the chapters are more case studies of the different locations.
