Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews
5.0
Oh Andrea, you were pretty damn cool in the previous Kate Daniels books but now you are just plain badass! You have taken the loss of the Order in your life and turned it into a desire to live, love, and kick some serious ass. You go girl!
This book centered all around Andrea and her relationship with Raphael and her place within the Pack. All while dealing with one bad God, attempting to prevent the resurrection of another superbad God, and saving the life of a child who had the unfortunately luck of being dragged into something completely unrelated to her.
Andrea, sometimes endearingly called Andi which I loved, is totally different in this book. While totally understandable considering what has happened in her life in the past few months it did take a little bit of getting used to. I think that was the point though because Andrea was still getting used to the new her as well, so it was fun to experience those changes along with the character. And the person she has become is so much stronger, trusting, and amazing. Raphael also grows up a lot in this book too. He used to be such a spoiled brat who while sweet, loyal, and determined, was still just such a kid. Now he is still fiercely loyal and loving, but is so much more mature and grown up. His loss of Andrea, and thinking she was dead at the end of the last Kate Daniels book seriously sobered him up and now he is so much more totally scrumptious!! Also every time his bright blue eyes and amazing black hair is described I can only think he looks like this...

Is that bad???
Either way I totally loved this book, and while I love that this book and the Kate Daniels novella [b:Magic Gifts|13299211|Magic Gifts (Kate Daniels, #5.4)|Ilona Andrews|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1324799377s/13299211.jpg|18504471] take place simultaneously and intertwine when Kate first emerged in Gunmetal Magic I kinda didn't like it. I thought it made it seem as if Andrea, Raphael, or anyone in the Kate Daniels world for that matter couldn't deal with some crisis like this without her help or input. And while her sojourn into Gunmetal Magic was brief I kind of would have preferred if she hadn't help. Although it was cool when their stories would intertwine, for instance when they were both in the office for their own cases.
Either way, this book was freaking fabulous and I feel so totally spoiled to have gotten an entire book dedicated to a character that is not Kate. Don't get me wrong I LOVE KATE but I was so excited for this book and for the rumored book about Jim coming up soon as he is one of my favorite characters in the series. It has been insanely fantastic getting a direct line into the minds of other characters in the series and I can't wait to do it again!
