this is a lovely book to just flip through when you feel like it - largely thanks to sally taylor’s stunning illustrations. nathan evans’ love for the core spirit of shanties shines though in the enthusiasm of his writing, and the overarching sense of unity is certainly needed more in the world today. it would have been nice to have a more detailed history of each shanty, and the genre as a whole, but overall this was an enjoyable ramble across the seas and an easy read
