OMG THIS BOOK. This book was difficult I get through at times but I pushed my way through it bc I knew it was sending an important message and because it had me on the edge of my seat. This book captured how it felt to not only be a victim of abuse in every sense of the word but to be a black girl on top of that. In a world such as ours where young black girls are fetishized and over sexualized being called “grown” or “fast” over little shit like red nails, long hair, the shape of our body, the clothes we wear, the way we carry ourselves, etc, it can be so difficult coming out and telling the world you were abused. Especially bc we already know the world would be against us. As Malcolm X said “The most disrespected person in America is the black women. The most unprotected person in America is the black women. The most neglected person in America is the black women”. Over all loved this book
