Critical Role: Bells Hells — What Doesn't Break
by Cassandra Khaw
It has potential!
A lot of this book had the energy of “can you stretch this four sentence story into a novel?” And by goodness it shows. A lot of the prose goes from being clever to steadily more and more obvious that the author is stalling for time. Until at some point the book goes “oh right, we need to have a climax and ending and stuff.”
I did enjoy the Launda/Delilah interactions, I felt like these were lacking in the campaign proper. Although I also feel thatLaudna remembering Delilah murdering her came way too late in the story. Especially considering they make a pact in the next scene. It just felt like a good idea rushed over .
I also wish this had more horror in it, I mean yeah, you get it in the prologue and a little near the end, but that’s it :/
Also while I thinkImogen was a welcome sight, again, it just seemed too late. It felt rushed like the Delilah thing.
