i was drawn in by the title, premise, and beautiful cover, but this book did not deliver on its promises of body horror and an intensely fucked-up relationship. It was gross and toxic, sure, but I kept waiting for something truly shocking to happen and it never did. Also, I am thoroughly unimpressed by the author - who is not a lesbian or a woman - making a lesbian character who is so obsessed with pregnancy. It was giving very "Black Widow in Age of Ultron" vibes, the whole thing felt kinda misogynistic and lesbophobic, and I just did not care for that arc in general. Again, I kept waiting to be shocked but that moment never came. I did like the writing style, but it wasn't enough for me to recommend it.
Graphic: Self harm, Animal cruelty, Animal death, Medical content, Toxic relationship, and Sexual content
Moderate: Pregnancy and Vomit
Minor: Lesbophobia, Abandonment, and Homophobia
If the idea of parasites, unsafe BDSM, or eating unsanitary things is upsetting for you, I recommend sitting this one out.
