The Siren by Tiffany Reisz

It turned out this wasn't really what I was in the mood for this one, but it was so well written that I think I'm glad I kept with it. Nora Sutherlin is a famous erotica writer trying to transition into more mainstream fare, but she has to get past the strict standards of her exacting editor, Zach Easton. Not helping matters any is the heavy baggage both of them carry.

Meta books about fictional writers and their writing process are always hard to judge - is this all really clever or is it the epitome of taking the lazy way out and writing what you know. Add to that that I'm still trying to get my head around the idea that erotica isn't just romance with kinkier sex scenes. Not knowing what role my protagonists were supposed to play was hard. Considering how invested I was in the characters, though, I think this must have been a good one.
