The Republic
by Plato
challenging
hopeful
informative
inspiring
reflective
slow-paced
This book made me feel as if I were transported to Ancient Greece, and physically sat in the room with some of the greatest minds in history. I feel like this was achieved thanks to Platos use of dialogue for storytelling, which I found to be very engaging.
I found the early discussions of justice, the simile of the cave and the myth of Er to be particularly compelling, while other sections of the book where interesting but often dragged on for too long or where at times to vague/ ‘wishy washy’ to properly understand. Future reads could potentially help this.
Despite feeling as though this book does hold some very interesting pieces of wisdom, there was an equal amount of disagreeable opinions which were at times hard to look past.
