Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel by Val Emmich

3.0

It’s well told and a good adaptation from stage performance to novel (I was left wondering how it was a stage play and do want to see just to see how it pans out) and it’s good to see male suicide being tackled.

But at the same time, there’s something about DEH that feels a little... generic? Like, I’ve read similar plot lines a lot and I don’t know, I feel like I missed something in the storyline or the characters that needed to be there to make the story epic. Maybe that’s where the musical takes precedent over the novel, it has the soul or the heart that I need to boost the story from okay to epic. I guess there’s only one way for me to find out.
