Looking for Alaska by John Green

5.0

"I don't know where there is, but I believe it's somewhere, and I hope it's beautiful."

I've read the last few pages thrice and it still struck me strongly even after the third time. This is such a powerful story that revolves around people with strong and polar personalities. I decided right when I chose to read this last among the 4 in the set. The story is both captivating and strking and it is impressively written. I loved Alaska's spontaneity, the Colonel's confidence, Pudge's rawness, Takumi's depth and Lara's genuineness. And with all that being said, my answer to Dr. Hyde's (Alaska's) question "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth of suffering?" (BolĂvar) is this: There is no definite way out because each one of us has a different labyrinth to escape from. This means that like everything in life, getting out of the labyrinth will be dependent upon us. And by means of our different views in life, we will eventually find the way out, if we will it. We should all "go to seek the Great Perhaps" (Rabelais) because maybe, just maybe, that is our way out of the labyrinth.

Alain de Botton said, "Most of what makes a book 'good' is that we read them at exactly the right moment that is meant for us". That's something I adore about books and it makes me happy that I read this book at the exact moment that it was right for me.
