In the Pines by Kendra Elliot

emotional mysterious fast-paced

5.0

I’m so glad Kendra Elliot returned to Mercy Kilpatrick for this book! Mercy is such a good character, both for her ability to puzzle out mysteries and crimes, as well as for her empathy and love for her unique family. (I also appreciate the complicated relationship she has with one of her parents). In this book, it was fun to see how a couple of children and a long-lost sister ended up in everybody’s lives, too. One thing I appreciate is that the books largely focus on the procedural, and the romantic part of things is more an overarching arc that adds a bit of color: and it’s mostly about their love more than quote-unquote “romance,” in my opinion.
