The Latecomer by Jean Hanff Korelitz
3.0
I had a pretty hard time with this book and almost gave up on it at several points. Overall, I'm glad I didn't, but I'd also have a hard time recommending it. There were so many times that it seemed overstuffed and tedious, and I kept waiting for something to happen (maybe my expectations were just off, coming to this from [b:The Plot|55315487|The Plot|Jean Hanff Korelitz|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1626185013l/55315487._SY75_.jpg|78569619]). I enjoyed some of the themes, but it seemed there were too many jammed in - same with characters in general (Ephraim at the end??). I wondered if this would be more enjoyable as a tv series, or even revisiting some characters - Stella seemed more interesting than most of the characters in this book, but was not central or developed. Salo seemed like a central figure of the start of the book but seemed to become less and less important. Overall, this book didn't feel balanced to me.
