this was a captivating story, beautifully written as only jesmyn ward can do. there's so much depth and beautiful, heartbreaking descriptions, & symbols that pack a punch. i liked the spiritual aspect of the story. i do think i wanted a bit more from this in terms of what was happening but overall such a great story.
