Azumanga Daioh, Vol. 1
by Kiyohiko Azuma
Very cute manga. I decided to check this out since I like the authors other series, Yotsuba&!, and I wasn't disappointed. Azumanga Daioh has great characters and is constantly hilarious and crazy without going over the top. The humor is realistic, at least as far as manga goes.
The only thing that detracts from the book is the strange layout. This book had two sections, a few pages each, where it read like normal manga; the rest of the time, it consisted of four-panel mini stories within the story, each strip with its own theme and joke. They still carry on the plot, but it has a more stilted flow. It puzzled me, but I got used to it after a while. I look forward to reading more.
