The series is one of my guilty pleasures so I figured I'd read the books too. They aren't that well written (in fact, I spotted quite a few typos) but I like them anyway. Kind of the way I liked Twilight, except these are better, I think. I can't really determine if I like the books or the show better, since they're totally different. Sure, some characters have the same name and some of the same characteristics. But other than that they have little in common. Even the vampire mythology is slightly different. But, still, I'm enjoying the books a lot.
