claresbookshelf 's review for:
Bec
by Darren Shan
4 out of 5 stars.
Yikes.
To say this book is gruesome would be an understatement. Darren Shan is certainly increasing the levels of gore in this series and I am not complaining.
Bec, as a character, was brilliant to read about. When some men write female characters they feel like a man's idea of what a woman is rather than what it actually means to be female. And there was definitely some of that in this book, but I think that may be due in part to the era the book is set. It's set 1600 years before book 1 and that's early 2000s.
She was still a nice addition to the cast.
The one thing that bugged me was, due to writing style for this series (short snappy sentences. Quick observations.) Bec's voice was very similar to Grubbs'.
Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Glad I've finally picked it up now it's 11 years old.
