“He smells like the fresh scent of rain about to fall. But he’s not a pleasant drizzle: he’s a downpour coming down so hard you can’t see more than a few steps in front of you. He’s the unpredictable storm that rolls in on the clearest day. And somehow, I don’t mind the thought of getting caught in his storm.”

Y’all. I read this in less than a day. It was SO GOOD. Kara lured me in with Adrian and ensorcelled me with Graylen. My heart… it’s just reeling right now. Especially with that ending! A cliffhanger, but not one that makes you throw your book across the room; no, it’s one that makes you squeal with giddiness and extreme impatience for the sequel.
The first 40% of this book is laying such a firm foundation that you are cemented and committed to its groundwork. The imagery is full and luscious and layered so well that you FEEL everything. It was beautiful. You truly do get to utilize all your imagination’s five senses here.
I loved the fake dating. Lu’s friends were adorable. The plot twists were so fun! And the ending…. Gosh! I felt one thing and then BAM, another. Leaving me rocking in shock.
Magic is outlawed in Crea and there isn’t much information on Penyth in this first installment to know the extent of the magic system yet so I’m super excited to learn more about that in book two. And also more swoon worthy moments with green eyes. Please, Kara? With strawberries on top?
