Very disappointing. Such a slog to get through this book, for basically no payoff. The pacing is terrible. There are really great, quotable lines of dialogue, but the overall themes are lost in a haze of symbolism and lore that isn’t explained nearly enough to be engaging. Many of the major and most exciting developments take place off screen, which is a shame. The musical is a thousand times better.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Child abuse, Sexual assault
Moderate: Emotional abuse, Genocide, Infidelity, Colonisation
