I didn't know what to expect diving into this read.. this is book one in the Promises and Vows Duet. A book with a LIST of triggers and tropes. This book off the bat has you needing all of your attention to keep track of everything.
This book reminds me of Haunting Adeline but with the mafia trope. But these characters are no Zade Meadows or Adeline Riley. Icarus & Avalyn balance each other perfectly and it’s hard to say that about certain characters when they’re mostly one or the other.
I feel this book focuses more on their backstories and relationship more than the present day events unfolding around them and honestly I’m ok with that! I loved seeing each past event to make them who they are now so going forward into book 2, we understand them better and can focus on the events unfolding at the end of this book…. Which is one of the MEANEST cliffhangers I’ve ever seen!
