If I could rate this book higher, I would. The main character is frustrating at first, but only because he is so relatable. He's been so beaten down by a system that he's lost hope, he's lost a sense of independent thought, and yet he hasn't. The other characters reawaken that for him, and the family he finds, and the other characters make with him is beautiful. This will be a comfort read for years to come.
Moderate: Bullying, Child abuse, Physical abuse, Racism, Abandonment
