The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris
3.0
A lovely found family story for all ages. The pace is breakneck, but I guess that can be expected for middle school level books. The plot itself is simple and a bit silly. It doesn't stand out a whole lot, but the magic throughout it really gives it a lot of charm to me. The characters were quite charming as well, and I'm hoping they'll get a bit more time to be fleshed out some more in the future.
I wasn't crazy about the magic trick tutorials scattered throughout the book. Most of them were corny at best. But 14 years ago, I would have made the coin trick my whole personality.
Overall, a great book for a young reader, and a cute palette cleanser for a 24 year old.
P.S. I've seen a couple different people claim this is a middle grade version of Six of Crows. I don't understand that comparison at all. It's been a hot minute since I've read SoC, but the only thing the two seem to have in common to me is that it's about a gang of six misfits...
