I felt inclined to read this ARC because of my time living in New Orleans during grad school. It was super cool to read a book I knew the setting of!

This story was so unique and had such an ominous vibe throughout. The first 100 or so pages was pretty slow; but once the odd things started coming together into a plot (and definitely not the way I was expecting), it was hard to put down. My one big issue with this book was that I found all of the characters insufferable. This could have been intentional due to the theme of familial reputation, but it made it pretty difficult for me to enjoy the story at times.
