This Lullaby

As a fan of contemporaries, it is surprising that it's taken me this long to finally reach for a Sarah Dessen book. But... I didn't really like much about the story or characters. I felt like Sarah Dessen was writing herself in circles. Like she was trying to prove a point, but then she did things that didn't prove her point?
The whole bar scene was really weird to me, and I just didn't enjoy it at all. The love interest, was not interesting, the characters were all whiny and annoying. I hated the main characters voice, and I definitely didn't feel the connection between her group of friends who, it seems like, have been friends for ages. I also want to mention that her mother's sub plot was entirely unenjoyable, and really ruined the story for me. Why was it necessary??? This Lullaby didn't really have a plot, which I thought was going to be okay, since it is a more romance driven story, but then the romance fell flat,and so all of it put together was just sort of less than what I was hoping it would be.
It was a whole lot of meh and now I am very hesitant to reach for her other works.
