Just Last Night has all the feels, and is altogether bittersweet.
Eve has had a long time crush on best guy friend Ed. She is devastated when Ed becomes engaged to his girlfriend, though further devastation awaits with the sudden loss of a close loved one.
Details learned of the lost friend after death complicate Eve's grieving process, as well as the presence of associated family issues.
Loss of a friend, loss of relationships, loss of faculties and control construct the basis of Just Last Night.
I went into this one fairly blind and enjoyed not only the depth of storyline, but also the wit and smart dialogue throughout. And the Twin Peaks references were a pure bonus.
This is my first Mhairi McFarlane book (though I own two others!) and I now understand why she has so many dedicated fans. She's got this down pat. Recommended!
