After finishing [a:Mayim Bialik|3031379|Mayim Bialik|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1331673761p2/3031379.jpg]'s book [b:Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way|13585861|Beyond the Sling A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way|Mayim Bialik|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1344706819s/13585861.jpg|17335964] I knew I had to share it with others and let others know how much this impacted my perception of parenting - Then I started reading reviews on GoodReads. I found many others like myself who were deeply impacted but some were not so impressed. Those who were not impressed had the a common theme - this book isn't a how to. True, it isn't it's much more.

If you're considering reading [b:Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way|13585861|Beyond the Sling A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way|Mayim Bialik|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1344706819s/13585861.jpg|17335964] take note now, unlike traditional parenting books, this book will not tell you how to parent. It does not give you a step-by-step guide in interacting with your children. Which is a good thing! Why? Because she doesn't know you, your family, and most importantly your children. There is not a single person out there that can tell you what's best for your child - except for you THE PARENT.

Why I love this book? I've always known I did not want to parent my son the way I was or how friends and family were encouraging me to parent. Techniques like crying it out, making my son learn how to be without me, and yelling did not feel natural, safe, or right. I knew there had to be other options out there, but what were they? By chance, I picked up [a:Mayim Bialik|3031379|Mayim Bialik|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1331673761p2/3031379.jpg]'s book and she immediately opened my eyes. Many parenting methods and decisions her and her husband make were either already closely aligned to how my husband and I were already doing or triggered a "yes reaction". By "yes reaction" I mean while reading I thought to myself "Yes, this is how I've envisioned interacting my child" - but before reading I didn't fully know what it would look like, how others were doing it, and how to incorporate it into our family.

If you're looking for a step-by-step guide this book isn't for you. If you want to peek into the window a witness a honest reflection on how someone else is parenting and then use self reflection to determine what techniques you witnessed would work in your family and adapt them to your children this book is for you.
