Sorry but it basically had no plot. This book has a warm and cozy feel to it as it is quite the summer read. Katherine Heiny likes to write with timelines, letting the reader know of exactly what time or month it is, which is something different to what I have read before. It breaks the book up and makes it easier to read. She also constantly uses brackets to let us have a deeper insight into the meaning of some lines which I particularly liked as it made me laugh a couple of times. It had a good mix of lightheartedness and seriousness. The chapters are years which intrigued me more. The book is more mature as opposed to the books I am used to reading, although not to say that this is a bad thing. It is mature in not an age rating way but in a way of life, marriage, kids, mortgages etc. It captures the beauty of friendship and relationships very well, seeing people come together to help others aka Jimmy, is quite lovely. The book went over their daily life, now that they have to take on Jimmy, who needs extra care. However, i only gave it 3 stars in comparison to the other books I’ve read, at times it was quite dull and it seemed that they were just going through the motions and the second half of the book felt dragged out towards the end. Nothing of importance really happened or nothing stood out to me to make it any higher than 3 stars.
