Home: A Memoir of My Early Years
by Julie Andrews Edwards
As the subtitle suggests, this book covers Julie Andrews's early years up to the birth of her daughter Emma in 1962. Julie actually IS the essence of Mary Poppins. She comes across as confident but not conceited, nice but certainly no pushover, and good but not prim. She isn't bawdy, nor is she a prude. As a matter of fact I was surprised to learn that she and Tony Walton lived together before they married. That's nothing nowadays, but it was something in the late 50's and early 60's. I hope she writes a sequel. I'd like to see how she loses Tony and gets Blake Edwards.
