Final Girls
by Riley Sager
A good thriller for spooky season! This is the second Riley Sager thriller I've read in recent weeks, and I've enjoyed them both. Final Girls was creepy and fast paced with some excellent red herrings and twists. Like Lock Every Door, this novel has a strong —but also naive — young female protagonist. Kind of an interesting theme across both. Sager writes female protagonists who are indeed fighters and are scrappy, but they also willingly make poor decisions and throw themselves into dangerous situations (though, perhaps, there's some suspension of disbelief needed for character behavior here to keep the plot moving). Overall, an enjoyable and creepy thriller playing on the trope of the "final girl" from the slasher films of the 80s.
