This was a breakneck journey through the smokefilled, slick streets of LA and class politics. Damani is such a complex character in all aspects, and she really felt like a person that’s out there. Her taste for blood and violence, her unapologetic attraction to women, the comfort she found in working out and being masc while navigating appearing female, the love and frustration she has in taking care of her mom, the untouchable grief of her father. The desperation and connection she found with Jolene. It just read so true in a beautiful way. I could so easily see this adapted into a play or movie. And I love seeing complex South Asian protagonist explored the way they deserve to be seen.
