The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman

4.0

Its brazen criticism of institutional religion, particularly Christianity, will be off-putting for some—especially as book 2 makes this message more explicit than the 1st—but this unique risk-taking narrative makes for a very compelling and innovative fantasy series. Lyra is a ferocious character who's hard not to love.

And, da*@, who wouldn't want to have a daemon?!?

The Subtle Knife contains one of the most tense, on-your-seat, scenes I've read in a long while. Kudos to Philip Pullman for crafting such a wonderful trilogy.
