Inheriting Miss Fortune by Lucy Lennox

4.5

“I fell for you the night we met, Tully. But I wasn’t ready for you yet. I am now."

For years, Dev has closed himself off from the outside world. Apart from his friends and his horse, he's shut himself down and stopped letting people in. When he moves to Majestic, Wyoming, a part of himself finally settles and it starts to breathe life back into him. But when an old hookup walks into Majestic and introduces him to his daughter, he has to decide what he wants his future to look like and if it includes the two people he loves from the moment he meets them.

"If there was one thing I knew for a fact, it was that the more time I spent with Devon McKay, the more I wanted him. One small taste had ruined me for two years."

Dev has intrigued me from the moment we met him in Prince of Lies. For someone so young, he's got an old and weary soul and is constantly haunted by his past. But even with all of his family issues, Dev is loyal and loves with his whole heart and when he meets his daughter, Lellie, he gives her everything he has to offer. Though he's willing to do whatever it takes to give her a good life, it takes him a while to realize that the best possible life she can have is if she's with him. That first moment where he acknowledges himself as her father is so precious and I loved it so much.

"The soft and gooey look in her eyes was exactly how I felt at the sight of muscular cowboy Devon McKay gently cradling his baby girl on a playground. It was enough to make me want to have his baby."

But this book isn't all about Dev and Lellie. It's also about Tully, the man Dev compares every other man too even though all they had was one night. The spark between them ignited two years ago and has never dimmed. And once they're back in each other's orbits, it just grows until it's an inferno.

"What I truly wanted was to be soul- deep inside of him, permanently etched like an exquisite tattoo of intricate and loving words wrapped around his heart."

Tully has his own issues to work through. He's just lost his best friend and he has to fight to honor her wishes in regards to her daughter. He's been in Lellie's life since before she was born and loves her like his own kid. He just wants the best for her and along with Dev, he builds a little family that comes to mean everything to him.

"She’d cracked my heart wide and made it impossible for me to hide from the world. Now, I was rooted firmly in the sunlight and thriving."

This book is sweet and emotional with a touch of drama that keeps things interesting. I adored Dev, Tully and Lellie's story. The brotherhood and the people of Majestic rallied around these three and believed in them even when they lost faith in themselves. We also get a hint of what's to come next and I already know Zane's story is going to break my heart. But I've loved every book in this series so far and I know I'm going to love his story too!
