Saving June
by Hannah Harrington
June committed suicide and Harper is left to pick up the pieces. June was the perfect daughter and person, so Harper and her family are completely shocked by her final decision. A cute punk rock smoker, Jake, shows up to the funeral. Harper has no idea how June knew Jake, but she feels an incredible pull to him (well that and he annoys her). Since Harper's parents are divorced, they want to split June's ashes between the two of them. Harper can't handle the idea of June being split, so she takes the ashes on a cross country journey to California to release them all as one. Jake (his van Janis Joplin) and Harper's best friend, Laney, agree to take the trip with her. All are forced to confront their demons both related to the suicide and to the baggage they have in their own lives.
I liked this book. It was standard angsty teen romance. The punk rock Bohemia was fun.
