When I Think of You by Myah Ariel
5.0
“Sometimes we get stuck admiring our problems, but nothing changes if we don’t actually confront them.”
Early in this book when I realized it wasn’t dual pov, I was disappointed because I really enjoy the perspective of the mmc, however by the end I completely understand why Danny’s pov isn’t necessary.
This is Kaliya’s story, her journey, her growth and she needed to be the center. I enjoyed this so much and specifically this week I really needed to see a black woman advocate for herself and her healing despite her love for the man in her life. So often the world does its best to humble us and convince us that our dreams are not possible and then we lose the will to even try changing our circumstances because we feel defeated. Kaliya rediscovered herself and her purpose AND got her man and I needed to believe that was true again, myself.
Her love story with Danny was very sweet and I especially liked how they learned to be what the other needed and how they weren’t same people when they got back together. This was a beautiful story and one of my favorite reads this year.
