The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
4.0

The start of this story flies past: it's very cleverly written, revealing itself in non-linear pieces and giving the reader tiny puzzles on nearly every page. A twist is inevitable, but with so few characters, it feels a bit like a locked room mystery. The eventual turn is satisfying, surprising and scary. Along the way, I wanted to punch every character at least once. They're all histrionic, bored and desperate for attention and/or excitement. That becomes very trying in the pages leading up to the climax; I was begging for everyone to stop being a tool and get to the damned point already. But that's mostly because I was so engrossed in what the denouement would be, I didn't want to wait. So I'll forgive the use of stupidity as a plot device because the plot of drove was ultimately satisfying.

One note on the audiobook version: The narrator doing the voice of Anna is unbearable. Anna is pretty unbearable herself, but the voice makes her far worse.
