King of Thorns by Mark Lawrence

4.5 stars. I love it when a book is written from multiple timeline perspectives, giving you little pieces of information bit by bit as you go along. It makes it nearly impossible for me to put the book down and feel like "this is a good place to stop for the day". The story feels like a puzzle you're working out, which is such a great way to engage the reader.

Our protagonist takes a slightly more rational level headed approach throughout his journey here, but to say that he has 'mellowed' slightly since POT would be like saying a chainsaw becomes 'less dangerous' if it's missing a few teeth. While there is less shock value this time around, it retains the dark style of the original while improving the story telling and adding more depth.

Overall I enjoyed this one a little more than POT overall.
