The Final Gambit
by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I liked this series. I've had a difficult time rating and had to sit on it for a bit. The narrator is great (narrating is so difficult and so much work), but I had a hard time with how she chose to voice the Hawthorn brothers. All of them sound the same and they all sounded like really stereotypical southern 'hicks'—not like they'd grown up with silver spoons in their mouths.
The mysteries throughout the series are all nicely done and add a lot of intrigue--the way Barnes ends the book is satisfying and pertinent for today's world with its strange billionaire unbalance. The narration has gotten in the way of how I view the characters. I think I'll give it a couple years and re-read with my eyeballs and see how I feel about it all.
