silvershine 's review for:
The River
by Gary Paulsen
I was interested to see how the tension mounted when the setting was basically the same and Brian remembered all of his survival lessons from Hatchet. While a new situation was created, it wasn't nearly as harrowing as the first book, and this was full of foreshadowing lines like "Brian will look back on this and wish he hadn't said that." The fear of dying didn't feel as poignant to me, but I am still willing to read the subsequent books in the series.
