Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler

The author so perfectly captures the milieu of rural Wisconsin that I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me - of the dice games and cribbage, of those dark, dusty neighbourhood bars and those god awful snacks on display behind the bar, of supper clubs, brandy old fashioneds and Patsy Cline, of bonfires and renovated old mills, of tiny Lutheran churches in the middle of nowhere, of hunkering down and being enveloped in the winter's stillness, and of a feeling of being attached to the land. Of a place where family and friends are everything, and people grow up and grow old together. This novel was such a unique, cathartic read. Thank you, and thank you for featuring my hometown on the cover :)
